Boilers and insulation grants in 2022
Inflation in the UK has hit a new 40-year high, and higher energy bills have hit millions of households. The cost of gas and electricity has risen so much that many families are struggling to afford to heat their homes.
The energy price cap increase means that UK households had to pay an extra 12% in October 2021. That has now increased by a further 54% in April 2022, and Ofgem have said that prices could rise by a further 40% in October 2022.
With prices set to continue rising, the government has announced a new batch of grants to help people insulate their homes and install energy-efficient heating.
The first step in applying for a grant is to check whether you’re eligible. The government has strict criteria for who can apply, and unfortunately not everyone will qualify. However, if you are eligible you could get up to £20,000 towards the cost of a new heating or insulation! There’s even grants for renewable energies such as heat pumps and solar panels. Your home will need to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G to qualify (in most circumstances). Only 15% of funding will be made available to properties with an EPC rating of D.
If you would like to see if you are eligible for a grant, then the next step is to find an accredited installer. The government has a list of accredited installers on their website, and an installer will be able to advise you on the best way to insulate your home. Once you’ve found an installer, they will carry out a survey. We are registered with Trustmark and able to assess, deliver and submit applications for grants.
