Solar, heating & insulation · Kirkcaldy, Scotland

A warmer cottage.
A better energy rating.

Solar panels, a heat pump and insulation helped transform the homeowner’s traditional stone cottage, with a reported EPC improvement from F29 to B89.

Delivered through ECO4 in partnership with Scottish Power, this project brought several energy improvements together in one home.

The project

A joined-up approach to a cold home.

Before the upgrades, the homeowner’s cottage had an EPC rating of F29. Inadequate insulation and outdated heating controls made it difficult to retain warmth, and the homeowner often needed extra layers indoors.

The aim was to improve comfort and energy efficiency while reducing the burden of energy bills. Air quality and moisture management were also priorities for the household.

Eco Providers combined improvements to the building’s insulation with renewable electricity generation and a new heating system.

The installation

Four upgrades. One more comfortable home.

01 · RETAIN HEAT

Loft insulation

Loft insulation was installed to reduce heat loss through the roof and help the cottage retain warmth.

02 · GENERATE ELECTRICITY

Eight solar panels

An eight-panel solar array was installed to generate electricity at the property and reduce reliance on bought-in electricity when solar generation is available.

03 · DISTRIBUTE WARMTH

Full central heating

A complete central heating system was installed, tailored to the home to provide heating throughout the property.

04 · UPGRADE THE HEAT SOURCE

Heat pump installation

A heat pump was fitted as part of the coordinated heating upgrade, alongside the new central heating system.

The outcome

From EPC F to B.

The original project record reports an EPC improvement from F29 to B89 following the combined upgrades.

£1,262.23 a year

Annual energy-bill savings reported in the original case study.

This is a reported figure for this project, not a guarantee for another home. Actual bills depend on energy use, tariffs and system operation.

The original account also describes improved indoor comfort, air quality and moisture management. For the homeowner, the difference was being able to feel comfortable at home.

In the customer’s words

Comfort that makes a difference.

“Thanks to the ECO4 scheme and the work undertaken by ECO Providers and Scottish Power, I finally feel comfortable in my home without worrying about energy bills. The air quality has improved, and it’s wonderful to know I’m also helping the environment!”
